Goal: Discuss current reality and what future reality might look like

A figure in a story caught my eye the other day. It showed the following.

There are about 156 millions working people in the US. Current reality is that 75 million Americans are working from home. That is about half of the working people.

77 percent of these 75 million people are working 5 days a week from home. Four percent are working 4 days. Three percent are working 3 days. And roughly 4 percent are working 1–2 days.

All of these numbers are bigger than they were pre-pandemic. Especially the first number which was only 9 percent working full time from home.

What is surprising about this?

Well, one thing you don’t hear from employers is that the people that are working from home are less efficient than when they were in the office. As a matter of fact there even might be a slight increase in productivity.

Are you missing your 2 hour commute? The quick lunch at your office desk?

Most people’s reality has changed. They have found a spot in their cramped house or apartment for their laptop and by now have adjusted to this reality.

The kids are still at home and in reality most parents will be glad when kids get back to their school. Their desire could be for learning, socialization, or their mental sake.

My belief is that most people are eventually going to settle into some 3 day at home and 2 days in office routine. Some might even do 4 and 1. But like before when only 4% worked from home full time, the new reality might be 10%.

Maybe I am wrong? Maybe the genie has been out of the bottle too long and is never going back to the old reality?

How will the transition occur?

Let’s assume that 80% of current reality is future reality.

77% of working from home will become .8*77= .616=61.6% or 62%

Now let’s assume 4% for four days is the 20% then 4=.2X, x=20% will work 4 days a week

Same thing for 3 days, .3=.2Y, Y=15%

1–2 days becomes the rest =100–62–20–15=3%

So 62% will work 5 days from home, 20% will work 4 days, 15% will work 3 days, and 3% of people will work 1–2 days from home.

There are my predictions for 2021.

My sixteen cents….(this is what I earned from Medium.com for Jan. 2021)

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
