Are You Looking for an Inspiration?
…Maybe Instead Look for an Irritation
Goal: Discuss why it is best to start with irritation than inspiration
I believe that most people sit around waiting for an inspiration to strike them. Magically they believe that the light bulb above their heads will turn on. That is a misguided way to think about inspiration that would lead to creativity.
One of the things I learned along the way is that to be a professional at anything requires that you put the work in. You as a professional are willing to fight the internal resistance to finish. This idea od resistance was originated by Steven Pressfield.
In a sense, inspiration is for amateurs. A professional shows up and simply does the work. By slugging through the work and pushing back against resistance you persevere to succeed.
Even worse, you can not wait for inspiration because it might not come.
You have to live fully and immerse yourself in many different things in order to put yourself to form a new connection. That immersion into many will create the few or one idea that is worth gold.
But even immersion is not enough…
You have to be driven to look for answers. To find out why things work the way they do and be curious enough to want to find an answer to your questions.
To me that curiosity is a sign of intelligence. Education and training can help BUT the curiosity is the key.
If you stop for a moment and observe, your life should be full of iritations. Things that bug you and piss you off. Things you seem to not be able to let go until you resolve them.
These are the things that are worth gold and you should pursue them no matter what the cost. That pursuit blended with curiosity will lead you to the inspiration spark.
The reverse idea of starting with inspiration to become curious to pursue is what most believe and seek. Don’t be most.
The young women in the picture above seems very irritated. She could become curious and pursue a solution or simply wait.
