Do You Dance Like No One is Watching?

Goal: Discuss the idea behind the state of flow that brings joy

Many years ago I watched a video. It was of a group of people on a hill watching a concert.

One of the people on the hill started dancing wildly. The arms were flaring, the hips were swinging, and the head was moving. Complete joy in the moment.

What happened next?

A person out of the crowd jumped in next to the person. The first dancer helped the second one to “do it right” and they continued. Next another and another dancer joined.

That first loyal follower was the key. They saw the joy and jumped in to experience it. With minimum of help, they became a loyal first follower. They were dancing like no one was watching.

What is the point of this story?

The other day I was listening to a podcast where the person being interviewed said the dancing line and I was reminded of the video. He also said that he was a fitness and nutrition expert so he wrote a book. The book was written as if no one would read it. That seems pretty harsh and wasteful of the effort.

Is it?

I do not think so. As the first video teaches us if you do what you love with joy, people will follow you. The author said that the book sold incredibly well. That just confirms the idea.

When one immerces oneself in their work or passion, they enter a state of flow. They glow with the joy they experience and others notice it. The work becomes a shining light pulling people towards seeing it.

The big question for me is am I writing like no one is reading? Am I immersing myself in the ideas with joy?

I love the picture above of the two girls. It shows us that someone is always watching (or reading). What does it take to pull them into your joy and flow with you?

My seven cents….(this is what I earned from Medium.com for Nov. 2020)

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
