Do You Practice Ways of Increasing Your Curiosity?

…do you?

One of the most underrated qualities in life is curiosity. If our ancestors were not curious about what was over the hill we would have died out.

Curiosity is the way we get to a new solution to a problem. We have to want to see something better in order to seek something better. The want is a curiosity.

OK…so we should be curious

BUT most people struggle with how to become more curious. They often accept the idea that curiosity helps to get us to a better place BUT the how is confusing.

Let me offer the following.

In any situation X we should be able to answer these questions

  1. WHY are we doing X
  2. WHEN do we need to do X
  3. WHO can help us to accomplish X
  4. WHERE is X needed
  5. HOW do we get X done

These questions help us define the current state. BUT they do not lead to curiosity. We need to go deeper by asking additional questions.

  1. WHY do we believe WHY we are we doing X
  2. WHY do we believe WHEN we need to do X
  3. WHY do we believe WHO can help us accomplish X
  4. WHY do we believe WHERE is X needed
  5. WHY do we believe HOW do we get X done

This allows us to question our current state and hopefully we see the faults in our beliefs. BUT even that is not enough. We must examine our beliefs deeper.

  1. WHY are we wrong to believe WHY we are we doing X
  2. WHY are we wrong to believe WHEN we need to do X
  3. WHY are we wrong to believe WHO can help us accomplish X
  4. WHY are we wrong to believe WHERE is X needed
  5. WHY are we wrong to believe HOW do we get X done

So we determine our state, why we believe our current state, and why we could be wrong to believe what we currently believe. Notice that the process is simply repetitively asking WHY and WHY NOT of our beliefs.

Many of us have learned and applied the 5-WHY technique when trying to understand the root cause of an event. What I am proposing is a blend of WHY with the WHY, WHEN, WHO, WHERE, and HOW. It is about asking questions of your state and validity of your beliefs?

Why the picture?

Now you are curious. It caught my eye because here is a statue of a person who has opened her chest for people to walk though. It made me wonder why the sculptor wanted to create this beautiful piece and in the place it exists. The surrounding do not seem to be very open for people to see it from all angles. Interesting!!!

My three cents….(this is what I earned from Medium.com for Feb. 2021)

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
