Goal: In this article we will define what makes up Peak Moments of Destiny

The other day while walking I heard of this idea of a peak moment. The idea was interesting enough that I switched over to my voice recorder and left a memo.

What is a Peak Moment?

According to the speaker this was a concept that Oprah originated to describe a moment in time when a Perfect Opportunity and Perfect Level of Preparation combine.

Peak Moment= Perfect Opportunity + Perfect Preparation

Let us break these apart.

The world has been turned upside down. I know my world has been turned upside down. However, I do believe that all of this is Happening For Me!

In this messy situation there has to be a great opportunity. It is my job to be on a lookout for this opportunity. I fully expect it to be clocked as a lot of work.

This is why I am spending my time creating and strategizing to see through the fog of the situation. Most successful businesses that we know of have been created during these inflection points when the world path curiously twists in a new direction. I have to be looking for that inflection point and serve the need that will be created.

In my opinion, the opportunity being perfect is the lesser of the two variables.

Being prepared for the opportunity is vital to any success. If an opportunity shows up and one is not prepared it will be difficult to take advantage.

In my career I have been very good at transitioning between different industries: steel/power, refining, chemicals, industrial gasses, software, consulting and academia. The only reason I was able to adaptively switch industries is that my skill set is so wide. I can come into a situation, quickly learn, and then go deep to solve problems for my customer/employer.

It is important to realize that ability to pivot requires a lot of “being comfortable with being uncomfortable”. You can not expect to immediately be an expert BUT you have to become good enough quickly.

Notice that in the picture above the hiker stands on two small peaks. Those are Opportunity and Preparedness. The balance has to be such that you can take advantage and balance in order to stand at that peak..

If we apply the 80/20 rule to this balance, I would say that 80 percent goes to the Opportunity and 20% goes to the Preparation. The 20% of my time spent Preparing will give me the 80% of the benefit to take advantage of the Opportunity. Also the 80% of my time should be spent hunting for the Opportunity.

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
