What Are You Doing With Raw Data You are Collecting?

In the article published on 9/23/20 I detailed how we behave due to our worlds being overloaded with data. In it I offered the idea that we should consume less data and take the time to pause and process. However, I did not offer a specific path.

Last night I watched a presentation on Digital Note Taking for Course Creators by Tiago Forte. He offers a more specific solution to our dilemma.

Tiago suggests that we think of the process with the acronym CODE in mind.

Capture the information using digital notes apps like notion, Evernote, OneNote, etc.

Organize the data using PARA which stands for Projects, Areas, Resources, and Archives. He offers a deeper dive on his website fortelabs.co/blog/para

Distill the information by reducing it down to core information. You only highlight and bold only the key info and not everything. Additional info on his website fortelabs.co/blog/ps

Express it by putting the pieces together and share your knowledge by Seeing, Writing, Drawing, Performing, Producing, and lastly Selling.

Without a system like this the raw data from books, articles, pictures, podcasts and the insight that they might have provided in that moment are soon to be forgotten. With a system like this they are an investment in the future of learning and executing.

Note: last paragraph is based on a quote from Kevan Lee, “I look at books as investments in a future of learning rather than a fleeting moment of insight, soon to be forgotten.”

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
