Who is in Your 3 a.m. Club?
…and how big is your club?
Goal: to discuss the importance of having a group of people that can bail you out in times of need and how big that group should be
A week or so ago Houston was in bad shape. We had no power. We had minimal if any water. And no internet for days.
It was a challenge to stay comfortable.
If you watched any survivalist shows you quickly notice that the biggest battle is often not food BUT water. Without fresh water after 3 days the survivalists are in trouble. I have even seen shows where they eat almost nothing for 21 days and survive.
Without power for the furnace to run you are cold and can not get comfortable. The young and old are in trouble.
When we lost power in our house, our friends invited us to stay at their home until we got power back. Making this offer to us was a very nice thing to do and we took them up on it.
This experience made me think.
If I was in trouble at 3 a.m. and needed immediate help (financially or physically a place to stay) how many people I could call on? More importantly how many people would be willing to step up and help with 100% certainty. Those would be people that I would also come to in their 3 a.m. need.
After some thoughts about this concept, I concluded that a person is very fortunate if they can have the 3 a.m. number be equal to their age. For any age after 21. Even if you cut that number in half you are still in a very good spot.
The number is the key. Even if willing to help you at that moment some might not be available. That is why the number needs to be large enough to provide the safety net.
Why is this important?
Human beings are meant to live in groups. The groups provide protection from other groups. If you are on your own in the wilderness, you are more likely to suffer and die.
Why the picture?
I saw this picture and the cover over the young lady reminded me of the function that the 3 a.m. club performs. They cover us in a moment of need.
