Goal: Discuss a new daily practice addition for your team and you

While taking a walk the other evening I listened to the podcast Hello Monday with Natalie Nixon. In it I learned a whole new philosophy.

She describe a typical morning meeting at Ritz Carlton. The company philosophy for daily meeting is to discuss Mr Biv.

What is MR BIV?

MR BIV is an acronym for:

Mistakes

Revisions

Breakdowns

Inefficiencies

Variations

Let’s break these apart in more detail.

Imagine you have a team that engages with customers on daily basis. During the day there are numerous interactions with customers that you might never hear about.

Would you want to know about a mistake one of your team members made? Would the team benefit to learn from a mistake that they could potentially make today?

Second topic is revisions. Each group has rules and policies that they follow. By hitting a wall the team might need to revise a policy or procedure of how they act.

Breakdowns are a complete failure. Identifying this is critical as well as following a 5-WHY technique to understand the causes and data that supports that cause.

Inefficiencies are killer of any team efficiency. Identifying them and reducing or eliminating them will improve the performance greatly.

Variations are harder to put your hands around. Maybe the team always does X but today they did X+. What was the effect? Did it improve the result?

Notice that so far this article has focused on team. What about you as an individual?

I can see this as being a very helpful exercise to think through every night before going to sleep. It should not take you more than 5 min to review the day based on MR BIV. Maybe tomorrow you will get up more aware of opportunities on how to get better? I will definitely test this out in my own life.

How about you?

My two cents….(this is what I earned from Medium.com in October 2020)

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
