Goal: Discuss how work and side hustles are both needed to find your passion

Recently while looking through my LinkedIn feed I noticed the following quote:

“I will do this until I draw my last breath” is how you know you’re doing what you love. After working at more than 20 different jobs I discovered metal sculpture and knew immediately it was what I will do until I draw my last breath. Anything less is unacceptable.
~Barbie The Welder

If you have ever seen Barbie The Welder’s work you would be impressed. You can tell that what she builds are art pieces with passion and purpose. I love her work.

What I love about the quote is that she shares that her journey to get to that point of success required working in 20 jobs before finding the one. That is a whole lot of change before she realized what she wanted to do.

I would guess that most people these days are changing jobs on the average about 5 years or less. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, we average about 12 job changes in our lives.

Maybe Barbie made more changes and that helped her tune in on what she was most passionate about doing for the rest of her life?

I don’t know Barbie but based on the type of work she does, I would not be surprised if the art pieces started as a side hustle. And build from that side hustle into a job working for herself. Recently she has even started publishing books. Her latest book is available at:

This is why side hustles are important. They allow you to sample what the work “feels” like and whether you could make it happen. Side hustles are mini tests towards success. If they fail, usually the financial and mental costs are minimal.

What is important is to periodically pause and ask yourself whether what you are working on, whether for an employer or yourself, is what pull you.

So ask yourself, “Do I want to do this till my last breath?” If the answer is no, then figure out what new job you would love to do or hustle to start.

Recently I have started a few sided hustles. I am testing whether app building could be successful. Also I am testing whether creating T-shirts could be successful. These are things that I can do while looking for permanent work.

The lesson is to work and hustle until you find something that you will do until your last breath.

Hustle hustle work work…Work hustle Work hustle…

My nineteen cents….(this is what I earned from Medium.com for Dec. 2020)

I got to go…my future self alarm went off
